A report provided the results of a review of patient information released by the National Health Service Information Centre, the predecessor organization to the Health and Social Care Information Centre. The report concluded that there had been significant administrative lapses in recording the release of data and, in some cases, the decision-making process had been unclear and records of decisions incomplete. The report made a range of recommendations to remedy issues arising from past releases and to manage and record more systematically the future release of data.

An article set out a methodology that could be used to calculate the value of mortality and morbidity improvements. The results for England indicated that the value of health improvements in developed economies had added at least 0.3 per cent per annum to twentieth-century national income growth rates. It called for those interested in understanding improvements in economic welfare to pay much more attention to improvements in health.

An article examined the links between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and poor adult health and social outcomes. ACEs were found to contribute to poor life-course health and social outcomes. Those linked to involvement in violence, early unplanned pregnancy, imprisonment, and unemployment suggested a cyclic effect, whereby those with higher ACE counts had higher risks of exposing their own children to ACEs.
